Four or five clays, pressed and layered before the form ever took shape — so what looks like painting is really geology. Each band marks a day laid down on top of the last: no single one remarkable, no single one skipped, until the piling up of ordinary time became its own kind of structure.
That's what accretion means — not a single event but a habit, a slow, unglamorous math of one plus one plus one, day after undifferentiated day, until something got built that wouldn't have existed any other way. There are stretches of life that teach that math firsthand: how staying in place, doing the same small things again and again, can still add up to something with real weight and shape. Nothing about any one day built a house. All of them together did.
Dimensions: 6" x 6" x 8"
Materials: Laminated stoneware and porcelain clay, high-fired
Ceramic, stoneware and porcelain, high-fired
